AA2: Advanced Mathematics and its Applications 2
MATH1014      6 CP       Second Semester
48 lectures and 10 2-hour laboratory sessions

The prerequisite is Mathematics AA1; incompatible with AM1, AM2, A12 and A22H.

The Calculus section will study integration and techniques of integration, functions of several variables — visualisation, continuity, partial derivatives and directional derivatives. The Algebra section will include: Theory and applications of the vector space Rn: subspaces, linear independence, bases and dimension, inner products and orthogonality, least squares fitting, eigenvalues and eigenvectors. There will also be a section on Modelling, in which mathematical techniques from AA1 and this course will be applied to processes and phenomena which occur in economics and the physical, environmental and life sciences.

The texts will be as for Mathematics AA1.
