Conrad Burden has held a research position as a bioinformatician in the Centre for Bioinformation Sciences, Mathematical Sciences Institute and John Curtin School of Medical Research, A.N.U.  since June 2003. He previously held a research postion in subatomic particle physics at the Department of Theoretical Physics, Research School of Physical Sciences, ANU, followed by a short intervening period in the IT industry.
(1) The statistical and physical analysis of oligonucleotide microarrays, which are used for the detection of cRNA in biological samples; (2) Analysis of genetic regulatory networks using the stochastic master equation; (3) Protein structure, particularly analysing comparisons between molecular dynamics simulations and X-ray diffraction data; (4) Alignment-free DNA sequance comparison using k-word matches and (5) Phylogenetic reconcilliation of gene and sequence trees.
Previous Research Interests (Subatomic Particles):
Nonperturbative calculations
in quantum chromodynamics using Dyson-Schwinger and Bethe-Salpeter equations.
Applications included the dynamics of mesons containing heavy quarks,
the properties of charge parity exotic mesons, the supersymmetric
extension of quantum electrodynamics in two space and one time dimensions and the dynamics of light mesons.
Earlier interests included Euclidean and Hamiltonian
lattice gauge theory, and cosmic strings.
