Entertainment in Canberra

We list here the theatres which are within walking distance of the university. For details of what is showing during your stay you can call the theatres, or look up the newspapers. "The Canberra Times" has extensive listings of what's on, especially on Saturday in the "Panorama" section.

Theatres

On campus:

  • The Street Theatre (Childers Street)
  • Canberra Repertory Playhouse (Institute of the Arts Building, Ellery Crescent).

Off campus, but close:

  • The Canberra Theatre (2 theatre halls, in a big complex on London Circuit)
  • The Royal Theatre (In the Convention Centre, Constitution Avenue).

Movie theatres

On campus:

  • ScreenSound Australia. Shows art movies. (McCoy Circuit)

Off campus, near the university:

  • Electric Shadows. Shows art movies. (Akuna Street)
  • Greater Union. Hollywood movies. (6 Mort Street)

Music:

On campus: Llewellyn Hall, home of the music school at the ANU, has a large music hall with many performances. They include many by visiting musicians.

Off campus: National Art Gallery. Not really walking distance. It is on the other side of the lake, about 4 kilometres away.
