Conference on Mathematical Relativity

(Canberra, July, 1988)

Volume 19 in the Proceedings of the Centre for Mathematical Analysis

Preface

The Canberra Conference on Mathematical Relativity was the highlight of a special program at the CMA which ran from June - August 1988. With over 40 people taking part and 27 talks packed into three days, the conference was a very stimulating and exhausting experience for all concerned. This volume contains reports on many of the talks presented and some contributed survey papers, and it is hoped that it will provide a good introduction to topics of current and future interest in mathematical relativity.

I would like to thank the Director of the CMA, Professor Neil Trudinger for the support and assistance of the CMA in making this meeting possible. I would finally like to thank the staff at the CMA: Marilyn Gray, as always, effortlessly dealt with every organisational detail, and Dorothy Nash, Jillian Smith and Joyce Heinz handled a mass of indecipherable manuscripts with their usual aplomb and skill.
