Stiff differential equations and singular perturbations
Robert E. O'Malley, Jr.
Abstract:
This paper surveys some possible solution behaviors for
singularly perturbed initial value problems for simple
ordinary differential equations. Initial layers, corner
layers, and shock layers of rapid change are featured. The
resulting challenges for stiff computation are pointed
out. Reference is made to a variety of literature.
