The mathematical physics group offers a number of PhB, Honours and PhD projects across a broad spectrum of topics in mathematics and theoretical physics. The underlying themes of most projects are either string theory or exactly solved (integrable) models in statistical mechanics and quantum field theory. They will appeal to students interested in mathematics and theoretical physics. Please contact either Professor Batchelor, Professor Bazhanov, Professor Bouwknegt or Professor Carey for details.
Recent Honours thesis projects supervised: (2007) Nathan Deutscher (mathematics, University Medal) Schramm-Loewner evolutions, Supervisor: Murray Batchelor (2007) Jen-Yee Lee (physics), The integrable 1D mixed Bose-Fermi gas, Supervisors: Murray Batchelor and Xiwen Guan (2006) Simon Chung (physics), Generalised complex geometry and geometric quantisation, Supervisor: Peter Bouwknegt (2006) Jolyon Bloomfield (physics, University Medal), The thermodynamics and fractional statistics of the spinor Bose gas, Supervisors: Murray Batchelor and Xiwen Guan |
