Position Overview
The Centre for Mathematics and its Applications is seeking to appoint an ARC
funded Postdoctoral Fellow, Level A position. The successful applicant should
have strong research interests and activities in Algebraic Geometry and/or
Algebraic Topology. The appointment will be located in the Algebra and Topology
Program area of the Mathematical Sciences Institute and is a research only
position.

PURPOSE STATEMENT
This position, funded by an ARC Discovery Project, is expected to contribute
towards the research effort on Algebraic Geometry and/or Algebraic Topology at
the Centre for Mathematics and its Applications, Mathematical Sciences
Institute.
ROLE STATEMENT
- Continuing research under limited supervision either as a member of the
Algebra and Topology Program, or independently, and the production or
contribution to the production of publications resulting from that research.
- Collaborations and involvement in professional activities including,
subject to availability of funds, attendance at national and international
conferences and seminars relating to Algebraic Geometry and/or Algebraic
Topology.
- Some administrative functions primarily connected with the Algebra and
Topology Program.
- Attendance at meetings associated with research work of the Algebra and
Topology Program and/or at departmental meetings and/or membership of a limited
number of committees relating to the Algebra and Topology Program at the
Mathematical Sciences Institute.
- Advice on Algebraic Geometry and/or Algebraic Topology research to
postgraduate students.
- Other duties as consistent with the classification of the position.
SELECTION CRITERIA
A. QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD or equivalent qualification in mathematics.
B. EXPERIENCE
- An excellent research record, shown by published work, in an area of
Algebraic Geometry and/or Algebraic Topology. Preference will be given to a
candidate whose field of interest is in the areas of Algebraic Geometry and/or
Algebraic Topology.
- Potential for significant research discovery as evidenced by level of
academic achievements and evaluation of referees.
C. ATTRIBUTES
- Ability to cooperate and maintain effective relations with colleagues and others.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- An ability to interact with and enhance existing research activities in
the Algebra and Topology Program, MSI.
- Capacity and readiness to contribute towards administration, such as
seminar organisation.
- A demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies and a commitment to their application in a university context.
