Workshop on High-dimensional Approximation

14 - 17 February 2005

The workshop is devoted to recent advances and ideas concerning high-dimensional approximation.

The need for representation of high-dimensional functions and data arises in numerous application fields. The development of efficient, or tractable, methods to describe and compute these functions is a challenging problem due to the "curse of dimensionality". The aim of this workshop is to attract and bring together researchers from different fields of research. The scope goes from theoretic results for high-dimensional approximation, to computational methods and to applications resulting in high-dimensional problems.

The topics of this workshop include but are not limited to:
  • Approximation of high-dimensional functions, theory and practice
  • Sparse grids, quasi Monte Carlo methods, stochastic solution methods, particle methods, RBF-methods
  • Machine learning, kernel methods, manifold learning, semi-supervised learning, dimension reduction
  • High-dimensional partial differential equations, integral equations, and integrals
  • Schrödinger equation, Fokker-Planck equation, Boltzmann equation
  • Applications in molecular biology, physics, financial mathematics and statistics
