Extreme Value (EV) Workshops

3 - 5 March & 11 - 12 March 2008

The Centre for Mathematics & Its Applications of the Australian National University (ANU) and Geoscience Australia are organising two two-day workshops on Statistical Modelling of Extreme Values (EV) for early March 2008. The venue will be the Sparke Helmore Lecture Theatre complex on the ANU campus.

Statistical modelling of extreme events has been subject of much practical and theoretical work in the last few years and have found wide areas of application in risk analysis (engineering, insurance, finance), traffic prediction (IT), financial markets, etc.

Program of Events

  • March 3, 2008: Introduction to R, especially intended for prospective participants in the March 10-11 advanced Extreme Value Distribution workshop. Practical demonstrations and exercises will focus on the graphical and other exploratory analysis of historical climate data. Further Information.

  • March 4-5, 2008: Basic EVD workshop

  • March 11-12, 2008: Advanced EVD workshop. This workshop will introduce participants to the R extRmes package, and give experience in its use.

A flyer with further details of the events is available for download.
