Summer School on Advanced Computation

Closing date: 22 November 2004

This workshop is being funded by APAC to provide training in the techniques and tools of computational science. It is aimed at postgraduate students and completing honours students, but summer vacation scholars will also be considered. There will be particular emphasis on efficient usage of the machines of the APAC National Facility .

The workshop will be of benefit to students who already have some experience in writing computer code and who are using or planning to use intense computations in their research. In particular the school may be of interest to people in the following disciplines, among others:
  • Mathematics
  • Computational Physics
  • Earth Sciences
  • Computational Chemistry
  • Bioinformatics
  • Econometrics
Lectures on numerical methods will be given by staff from the Australian National University and invited speakers from other APAC partner universities. The hands-on sessions and presentations on techniques of parallel programming and efficient use of the Scalable Cluster (SC) will be presented by staff of the APAC National Facility.

One of the highlights of the Summer School will be the Access Grid Event where which three eminent overseas computational scientists will provide their visions for the future of Advanced Computing.

Applications have now closed.

Some students may also be interested in the ICE-EM/AMSI Summer School in Mathematics, 10 January - 4 February 2005, Australian National University.
