The AMSI-ANU Workshop on Spectral Theory and Harmonic Analysis

13 - 17 July 2009

Poster session and workshop dinner

Poster session
The poster session provides those who are not giving talks with an opportunity to present their work. A participant's poster could contain a statement of their results, applications and any other information that is of interest. Those presenting posters will be able to further explain their work in person to interested participants at the poster session. Poster abstracts will be included in the program along with talk abstracts. Wine and cheese will be served during the session.

Suggestions for those preparing a poster.
Each poster will be mounted to a board whose useable dimensions are 1.75 metres wide and 1.3 metres high. Displays should not exceed this space. A simple poster may be constructed by preparing several A4 sheets using (say) size 18 point font and then arranging the sheets on the display board. Alternatively, one may prepare fewer A4 sheets using 12 point font and then magnify each sheet onto A3 paper using a photopier.

Ideally, your poster should poster should capture the attention of the viewer instantly, and be easy to read from a couple of metres away. Within a minute, a reader should be able to understand the problem that your poster is addressing. The presentation should be clear and uncluttered. It is not usually a good idea to include proofs of results; instead, bring a pile of preprints to give to those who would like to see more details.

It is strongly recommended that poster presenters also read SIAM's article How to prepare a poster. The following two posters, which have been presented at previous mathematics conferences, may give further ideas. (Please note that their size has been scaled down.)

Workshop Dinner
The workshop dinner will be held on the evening of Tuesday 14 July at Teatro Vivaldi Restaurant. The dinner will cost $50 (50 Australian dollars) per person. Payment can be made at the workshop by cheque, Visa Card, Master Card or Bank Card. Cheques should be made payable to "The Australian National University." Please note that we are unable to accept cash payments.
