We have a number of social events at BioInfoSummer, which we hope you will join in. Come along and meet the other participants.
Tuesday 5th December
We welcome participants with a packed evening on Tuesday 5th December, featuring a welcome cocktail party, public lecture and conference dinner..
Welcome Reception and Poster Session, Tuesday (free to all registrants)
Venue: Robertson Lecture Theatre, Research School of Biological Sciences, ANU
Time: 5.00pm - 6.00pm
Browse the posters with a glass of wine, beer, or juice in hand. Have a few nibbles and dips before listening to the public lecture. This is included with registration. Scholarship cheques will be presented during this time.
Public Lecture: Animal Phylogeny, Coral Biology & Bioinformatics (free to all)
Speaker/Host: Eldon Ball
Venue: Robertson Lecture Theatre, Research School of Biological Sciences, ANU
Time: 6.00pm - 7.00pm
Prof Eldon Ball from RSBS presents phylogenetic lessons learned from the study of corals in an accessible lecture, open not only to all registrants, but also to the general public. He has promised us to use plenty of pictures, and as he does research up on Australia's Great Barrier Reef, we can expect some of them to be very pretty.
Conference Dinner at The Gods, Tuesday ($32 for registrants)
Venue:The Gods cafe, ANU Arts Centre
Time: 7.15pm
To round off the evening, a two-course banquet dinner will be hald at a popular campus cafe,The Gods. This follows the public lecture, and is only 5 minutes walk from the lecture hall. This must be paid in advance - it is NOT possible to join on the day. The menu options have been chosen to suit most special diets including halal, vegetarian, lactose- and wheat-intolerance.

Informal Dinners
Our other evenings are more relaxed. Organise your own dinners, eat at college, or join us for a casual meal out at a local restaurant. Sign up by lunchtime on the day to be included in the booking. We have chosen some of the nearby cheap restaurants, so it won't break anyone's budget too badly.
Turkish Pide House, 7pm, Monday
Banquet menu $29.50 per head; other individual options are often cheaper.
The Shalimar Indian Restaurant, 7pm, Wednesday
Banquet menu price TBA; individual options also available.
La Pa Sa Singaporean Restaurant, 7pm, Thursday
Banquet menu $19 per head; this is a good deal but individual options are of course also available.
