A limited number of travel scholarships are still available for full-time students enrolled at AMSI institutions. The deadline for these is Wednesday 9th November

Applications have closed for international and non-AMSI student scholarships.

An online application form is now available.

The amounts offered are dependent upon the distance travelled to attend BioInfoSummer 2005.

ICE-EM Australian Travel Scholarships

The International Centre of Excellence for Education in Mathematics (ICE-EM) is pleased to offer student travel scholarships to attend BioInfoSummer. Students enrolled in AMSI institutions and not currently residing in the ACT are invited to apply for these scholarships, by following the guidelines below.

ICE-EM Asian Travel Scholarships

Several international travel scholarships are available to eligible postgraduate students and early career academics enrolled or employed in universities in Asia. Applicants must be able to understand and communicate at a scientific level in the English language.

The subsidies have a value of AU$ 1000 to AU$ 2500 (approximately US$ 750 to US$1900), and can be used towards registration fees, accommodation and travel expenses. Applicants should follow the guidelines below for submission. All applications from international students must be submitted online. For questions, contact Dr Nancy Lane at ICE-EM.

CBiS/IfH/MASCOS/COSNet/Ceanet Student Travel Scholarships

The Centre for Bioinformation Science, ANU's Institute for Health, the ARC Centre in Excellence for Mathematics and Statistics of Complex Systems, the ARC Complex Open Systems Research Network, and Ceanet are pleased to offer student travel scholarships to attend BioInfoSummer. Honours and PhD students not currently residing in the ACT are invited to apply for these scholarships by following the guidelines below. Recently submitted or graduated Honours or PhD students are also encouraged to apply, subject to availabilty.

Hilary Booth Prizes for best talk/poster

We are pleased to announce prizes for best oral presentations and poster. Prizes of $500 each will be awarded to the best student and postdoctoral talks, and the best poster. These prizes are in memory of Dr Hilary Booth who sadly passed away on 26 May 2005.

Guidelines for Applications for Travel Scholarships

The following guidelines apply to all travel scholarships.

Applicants are asked to submit:

  • Summary of current research topic (100 - 200 words)
  • Undergraduate record (Honours students) or CV (PhD students and postdocs)
  • Letter of support/recommendation from supervisor
  • Statement giving reasons for wishing to attend the ICE-EM Summer Symposium in Bioinformatics (up to one page)

For Asian Travel Scholarships only:

  • Indication of English language level, such as TOEFL or IELTS scores
  • Cost of return international travel expenses to Sydney, Australia

Submit the relevant documents (PDF, postscript or text formats) by 21 October 2005. Submission page will can also be done electronically, from here. Submissions can also be made via email to BioInfoSummer@cbis.anu.edu.au (Please do not use zip files; our virus checker does not like these.)

Electronic submission (above) is preferable, and all applicants from Asia must submit electronically. If necessary, applicants from Australia and New Zealand may submit applications postmarked no later than 17 October 2005 to:
