PUBLIC LECTURE

KNOTS:
A personal and very biased history of the mathematical theory of knots

Professor Vaughan F.R. Jones
University of California at Berkeley

Tuesday 15 February, 6pm
Manning Clark Centre
Lecture Theatre 3, ANU

Vaughan Jones was awarded the Fields Medal - the mathematical equivalent of the Nobel Prize - in 1990 for his pioneering contributions to the mathematical theory of knots. He is the only person from New Zealand or Australia to be honoured in this way. His entertaining lecture on the wonderful world of knots assumes little or no previous mathematical knowledge.
