D Labutin received an honourable mention for his talk presented at the 43rd Annual Conference of the Australian Mathematical Society, held at the University of Melbourne from July 11--16.
M F Newman was made an Honorary Life Member of the Australian Mathematical Society. Papers dedicated to him in recognition of his distinguished contributions to mathematics, on the occasion of his 65th birthday, filled a special issue of the Journal of the Australian Mathematical Society, Series A, 67(2), as well as almost all of the subsequent issue, 67(3).
C Schneider received the B H Neumann Prize for his outstanding seminar presentation (On the soluble length of finite p-groups) at the 43rd Annual Conference of the Australian Mathematical Society held at the University of Melbourne from July 11--16.
J I E Urbas was awarded the 1999 Australian Mathematical Society Medal for distinguished research on nonlinear partial differential equations and their applications.
