2.4 Tenth Anniversary celebrations

On January 1, 1989, the Department of Mathematics from the Research School of Physical Sciences and Engineering, the Department of Statistics from the Research School of Social Sciences and the Department of Mathematics from the Faculty of Science and the Commonwealth Special Research Centre for Mathematical Analysis, combined to form the School of Mathematical Sciences. Professors C C Heyde was the first Dean of the School and on March 8, 1989, Professor M F Newman, chaired the first meeting of the School Committee. The School celebrated its Tenth Anniversary on Wednesday, 24 March at 3.00pm with a series of short talks followed by a reception.
