4. Honours
Back in June I asked the MSI research group coordinators
to discuss with their groups the course prerequisites for students undertaking
4th year honours in their respective areas.
This was so that we could provide specific advice to prospective honours
students, and also to ascertain the minimum requirements for entrance into
honours maths.
4a Each research group to provide a short overview of their sugggested
honours requirements.
4b To discuss and hopefully agree on a new minimum entrance
requirement.
At present the requirement is credit average in the 4 second year courses
MATH2405 Math Methods 1 (ODE's and Vector Calculus)
MATH2406 Math Methods 2 (PDE's and Complex Calculus)
MATH2320 Analysis 1 (Real Analysis)
MATH2322 Algebra 1 (Groups and Rings)
and any 4 third year mathematics honours pathway level courses.
A possible new entrance requirement could be
Credit average in
MATH2405 Math Methods 1 (ODE's and Vector Calculus)
MATH2406 Math Methods 2 (PDE's, Complex Calculus)
MATH2320 Analysis 1 or MATH3101 Real Analysis
MATH2322 Algebra 1 or MATH3104 Groups and Rings
and any other 2 third year mathematics honours pathway level courses.
(Note that we now have 3rd year version of our Analysis 1 and Algebra 1
